I decided to work on the following film : ALMOST FAMOUS by Cameron Crowe.
Write an outline. Present tense short story form concentrating on what the audience will see
and hear. It also summarizes dialogue.
The story deals with William, 11 years old, who thought he was 12, and a not pubes yet. His mother hide the truth (he had 2 years of advance), and suddenly all his life changes. His rock'n roll sister, 15 years old, left the house to follow her boyfriend to San Francisco. She gave to William all her records. Four years later, William studied journalism at school, and also sent a review to Creem Magazine, a rock magazine. He met the rock journalist who asked to interview Black Sabbath, as an assignment. He went to the concert, at the backstage door, but he was rejected, then he met the band Stillwater which let him enter in the arena, and meet all this crazy universe. In progress...
Write a premise. Couple of sentences that will summarize the underpinning ideas regarding the film’s dramatic structure and development. I.e the Godfather??
In progress...
Point of view.
What belief or outlook does the story seek to express?
The story seek to express that we have to believe in our dream, to be optimistic and to follow our instinct. The free will is a big topic in this film, even if it's wrong or right... The character, even if he was young, he had lived an unique experience, an unique adventure with rock'n roll's end. He had the feeling that he had to live this experience, he didn't listen to his mother's advice, and decided just to listen to himself, to be self confident.
From whom or what does this thematic concern emerge?
The thematic concern emerge from the fate, from the meetings, from the train of events, we can see that there is a part of luck, just like the character of Match Point by Woody Allen, luck can change your life, but you must know what you want! His passion, Rock'n roll music, will become his life, because of all this events .
What is the main character and what makes him or her important?
William is the main character of the story, and it's his own story which makes him important. All his happened events, made him the crucial point of the story, even if the leitmotiv is his will to live his passion. The most important is how does he live them.
Whose mind is doing most of the seeing?
The main character's one, William, the script describe his vision, and his discover of the Rock'n Roll universe.
What are the idiosyncrasies in the way they see?
This is the vision of a teenager, he's not an adult yet, the perception are differents in the same ways the william's actions, he's still a kid who wants to achieve his dream, this is probably the difference with an adult, because we don't have the same perception of the life, instead of the kid whi have lost all sense of fear about the adventure, it's just a like a dream.
What disparity is revealed between their world and that of others?
The vision of William is different form the adult's one, but he learn a lot about life, music as a way of life... He is a witness of this epoch, this is the reason why he is inside the story but still have an external point of view about the story of Rock'n roll, even if he know the band, and all the people who made this kind of music, because he is just a kid who made an article about the band's tour.
His mother's world, is a world of fear toward her son's adventure, but her daughter leave the house few years ago, and she doesn't want her son does the same, so she's touched by fear but she must have also enough confidence towards her son and let him does that he really wants. She is balanced. The Rock'n roll crew's world is an universe different from the "normal" people, they have the music as a way of life, with drugs, chicks, they live as nomad.
William is balanced between his mother world and the other one, the one he likes...
What is the function of a particular moment of subjective revelation?
To have aneutral point of view? Or, our point of view, as audience...
